Where do all the builders go over Christmas?

building in canberra

If you’re in the middle of a build, it can feel a little disconcerting when the work just stops. And this is often the case over the Christmas/New Year period.

It is typical for the building industry to slow down in Canberra from the week prior to Christmas all the way until the end of January.

This does not always mean that nothing will happen on the building of your home during this time, but from a builder’s perspective it is difficult to plan a consistent schedule of work.

After labouring hard all year, Christmas and New Year is the time for builders and tradespeople to take a well-earned break. It also a time when they have a chance to re-group, plan and catch up on paperwork.

Some are back on board as early as the first or second week of January, but some do not return until the first week of February. Many building-related businesses also close their offices until mid-January.

In the “old days”, it was actually the concreters who set the shutdown period for the rest of the building industry. Not much can happen without them, so most builders and tradespeople wouldn’t bother returning to work until the concrete industry was back in full swing.

These days, everyone seems to return to work of their own accord – though not always at the same time. So it is impossible to re-start the same back-to-back schedule you may have been used to prior to Christmas.

Rest assured that your builder has your best interests at heart, and will do all they can to advance the building of your home without inconveniencing or pressuring their contractors.

Everyone deserves time to recover and recuperate, and at Rosin Bros we hope you will be doing the same this Christmas period!

To all our past and present clients and wonderful array of contractors and tradespeople – we thank you for being part of the Rosin Bros family this year. Your hard work, dedication and trust have kept us in business for more than 20 years.

We want to take this moment to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy, safe New Year. We look forward to working with you all in 2017 as we continue serving as Canberra’s leading custom home rebuild specialists.
